Destin Arrival

We have been awaiting our vacation this summer for quite awhile. For the past few years, the Berry's and us have discussed doing a 2-week vacation. This is the first summer to try it out. Our requirements: no agenda, no big activities, be in the car as little as possible which means a lot of things within walking distance, big enough place to host all of us, and preferably a house vs. a condo. We found a place in January and booked it. It is in Destin, FL. We were all here one time together in 2005 when I was pregnant for our first little guy. We have very fond memories of that vacation, so this seemed like the perfect fit. So far, we have not been disappointed. The ride down wasn't the smoothest in our family history, but given the multiple traffic jams that we were part of, we can't complain. I can't lie and pretend like we have perfect kids...they did semi-OK, there were no big meltdowns... but a lot of 'are we there yet's' and 'he's touching me' and 'i can't sleep in the car' and 'i want my window open' and 'i want my window shut' -- you get the picture. At the same time, there was a lot of excitement, a lot of anticipation, a lot of talk about what we were going to do, and a lot of snacks and songs in the car. So, all in all, not bad!


*For two weeks, we didn't spare any room. My belief is that if we're driving, I should be able to take anything I want :)*

We drove part way on Friday and the rest on Saturday. We just pricelined a hotel from the car on Friday night. Our boys have not done hardly any hotel stays... so when we arrived at the hotel, they thought we were already in FL. "There's a pool INDOORS???" "Does this apartment have a basement??" "Is this our new home??" It was so so cute. I remember being like that as a kid! There are some benefits to a low-key home b/c when you actually decide to take them out, they are pumped... ha ha :)





We all arrived about the same time on Saturday. The place so far is GREAT. The view off our screened in porch is GREAT. The water and temp is GREAT. Today it is raining and it is actually GREAT. My brother Chris (who lives in CA) flies in tomorrow to stay with us for 10 days. We're not sure why he agreed to come visit us with 5 boys under the age of 5, and actually stay in the same place, but we think he's in for a really good time :) More updates later...
